Call for Racial Justice Submissions
A statement from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute:
The Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Leadership, Equity, and Justice (Proctor Institute) stands in solidarity with Black men and women across the country who are advocating, organizing, and protesting our inherently prejudicial and discriminatory criminal justice system. We, too, are outraged by the murders of George Floyd, Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the countless other members of Black communities who have lost their lives at the hands of police officers who were sworn to protect and serve them.
As a national center that focuses on issues of leadership, equity, and justice within the context of higher education, it is imperative that we not only use our platform to speak up about these injustices, but also to develop programming, create opportunities, and allocate resources that aim to dismantle white supremacy, eradicate systemic oppression, and reduce the disparities that exist within Black communities and other communities of color. In our effort to enhance equity, foster justice for all, and honor the memory of activist, leader, and scholar Samuel DeWitt Proctor, we will continue to provide support to all of the Black staff, students, and scholars who have contributed significantly to our Institute and will stand beside them in the fight to end institutionalized hatred and bigotry. We intend to take concrete steps to eradicate prejudice, eliminate bias, and call upon all of our supporters to join us to stamp out racism, oppression, and discrimination in our schools, universities, communities, and our nation.
In an effort to combat the systemic injustices that continue to plague Black communities, we invite and encourage research submissions, podcast interviews, essays, and Twitter Chat proposals, that investigate, grapple with, and seek to abolish the institutionalized racism that exists in our country. We will provide editing, design, promotion, and dissemination support for research as well as any technical support. Although the Proctor Institute will publish and promote your research, you will retain all rights to your work.
