NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., August 4, 2022 - The Samuel Dewitt Proctor Institute for Leadership, Equity, and Justice (Proctor Institute) is proud to announce the inaugural cohort of Latinas Excelling at Doctoral Degrees (L.E.A.D.D.), a program intended to equip and empower undergraduate Latina students, strengthen their confidence, validate their research interests, create community, and share resources to combat cultural and academic isolation of Latinas and women of color, before attending graduate school.

Our first L.E.A.D.D. cohort members are:

  • Laura Aubry, University of Texas at San Antonio
  • Ashley Guevara, University of Houston-Downtown
  • Prisilla Lares, University of Texas at San Antonio
  • Nelid Rios Morales, Bryn Mawr College
  • Genesis Santos, Baylor University

The L.E.A.D.D. program will include discussions and workshops on topics such as cultural and academic isolation, cultural values and academic expectations, peer support and mentorship, as well as identity, advocacy, and research design. Each workshop is developed to create dialogue and combat the common challenges Latinas face in the academy.

"It is exciting to welcome our first L.E.A.D.D. cohort… I am thrilled to see the new knowledge production that will come from these scholars as we illuminate their pathway to the professoriate,” said Proctor Institute Visiting Scholar and program curator, Bianca Neal

In an effort to minimize any financial burden, the Proctor Institute will virtually host scholars without program fees and provide a stipend upon program completion.

Please join us in congratulating these scholars on their selection for the L.E.A.D.D. program! Learn more about each of the L.E.A.D.D. Scholars here.
