Debalina Maitra
Debalina Maitra teaches graduate-level courses in the Department of Educational Leadership at Kennesaw State University. Her academic scholarship centers on the experiences, voices, and cultural capital of marginalized students, with the goal of fostering more inclusive and equitable educational environments. As a transdisciplinary educational researcher, her work spans three interconnected domains:
- Amplifying marginalized voices across STEM and other disciplines: Maitra highlights the experiences and recommendations of marginalized students, addressing the challenges and barriers they encounter on their academic journeys.
- Professional development of educators: She focuses on equipping the teachers and the professors with the knowledge, pedagogies, and skills necessary to effectively support and engage multi-marginalized students.
- Integrating student identities and cultural capital into education: Her research also emphasizes how teachers can integrate students' identities and cultural capital into classroom lessons, with a particular focus on STEM education.
Her research bridges literacy and STEM education through an equity lens, grounded in critical theories with the aim of driving transformational change. Maitra has published over a dozen of manuscripts in peer-reviewed Tier 1 and Tier 2 journals. Her conference contributions include 29 proceedings, 9 of which are peer-reviewed conference papers. Additionally, she is deeply committed to mentoring students with multi-marginalized identities, both formally and informally. Over the course of her academic career, she has mentored more than 40 undergraduate and graduate students.
