Alexander Rohrer

Alexander (Alex) Rohrer (he/him/his) is an Adjunct Instructor of Sociology in the Behavioral Science Program at Wilmington University. He holds a Doctor of Social Science in Prevention Science from Wilmington University. Alex has a master's degree in forensic psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a bachelor's degree in psychology with minors in English and sociology from Millersville University of Pennsylvania.  Alex is currently employed as a community school director within the School District of Lancaster.  Previously, he has worked as a mental health group therapist, elder abuse victim advocate, and juvenile probation officer.  While completing undergraduate and graduate school, Alex participated in four criminal justice internships to increase relevant knowledge and develop diverse perspectives, including the following placements: Lancaster County Juvenile Probation, Millersville University Police Department, Warren County Prosecutor's Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).  In addition to the above experience and education, Alex has completed certifications in trauma studies and basic gang studies. Currently, he is completing a certification in first responder support.  

Alex is a proud member of the Commonwealth Prevention Alliance and International Association of Chiefs of Police.  He serves as an advisory board member for Lancaster County Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. Alex’s current research interests in prevention science focus on law enforcement, violence prevention, and mental illness and substance misuse.  He has published a paper in the Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology titled “Law Enforcement and Persons with Mental Illness: Responding Responsibly.”  His dissertation was titled “Perceptions of Law Enforcement Personnel on Training for Response to Persons with Mental Illness.”

Alex is a first-generation college student, and is extremely proud and grateful to have the opportunity to earn a doctorate.  He hopes to obtain a position as an adjunct/assistant professor, and aspires to not only teach courses, but also to serve as an advisor for students and coordinator for internships/experiential learning opportunities.
