Call for Reports: Year of Justice

    The Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Leadership, Equity, & Justice is seeking submissions for The Year of Justice -- a three-report, research series examining justice broadly. We invite submissions that grapple with the idea of justice within the context of education, both at the K-12 and higher education levels.

    Questions to consider but that should not limit authors are:

    • What does justice within our society entail? 
    • How do we move closer to a justice-oriented society? 
    • Where is justice needed most? 
    • How do we continue to move social justice initiatives forward?

    The data-driven reports will be peer-reviewed and should be no more than 5000 words and contain original research. The sections of the report should include an executive summary (250 words), an introduction, a literature review, a methods sections suitable for a general audience and labeled “research approach,” a results section written for a general audience, recommendations for policy, practice, and research when applicable, and references in APA format. All methodological approaches are welcome, including but not limited to qualitative, quantitative, historical, philosophical, and mixed-method research.

    Authors can also send a separate file highlighting “pull quotes” to emphasize in the report, providing tables and diagrams, providing 300DPI photos that are relevant to the content or videos to embed in the report, and “spotlights” that bring data in the report to life for the readers (e.g., short vignettes, case studies). Please do not ‘design’ your submission. All submissions should be submitted in Microsoft Word. 

    Submissions are due August 15, 2021, to Marybeth Gasman at marybeth.gasman@gse.rutgers.edu. Three reports will be chosen from the submissions for publication and authors will receive a $1000 payment and retain the copyright for their work. The Proctor Institute will provide editing, design, dissemination, and promotion of the publication. Submissions will be evaluated based on a peer-review of content, writing, and recommendations as well as connection to the overall theme.
